“Writing is an exploration.
You start from nothing
and learn as you go.”
~E. L. Doctorow
Heroes come in all forms and can mean something different to everyone. What is your definition of a hero? Is it someone who sacrifices to help others, is it someone who overcomes adversity and thrives?
Write about a hero or a heroic event that made an impression on you.” What made this stand out for you? How has it changed you as a person?
Reflect and write.
|“Writing is a form of personal freedom. It frees us from the mass identity we see in the making all around us. In the end, writers will write not to be outlaw heroes of some underculture but mainly to save themselves, to survive as individuals.”
~ Don Delillo
How rarely one hears these words used.
How rarely do we see people living,
or for that matter, creating by them.
Yet if I were asked to name the most
important items in a writer’s make-up,
the things that shape his material and
rush him along the road to where he
wants to go, I could only warn him to look
to his zest, see to his gusto.”
