Blog Hop:The Next Big Thing

I was recently asked by Sylvia Stein, a wonderful writer to take part in this Blog Hop!

For this Blog Hop I am to answer 10 questions about my work in progress then tag other authors to do the same.

Here we go:

1. What is the working title of your book?

Right now the working title is “The Morrigan” because a great deal of the story centers around the Celtic “Raven” Goddess.

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?

My main character Katie has been the protagonist in previous unpublished work and I simply fell in love with her spirit. I had a story rolling around and just felt the character would fit in perfectly.  I was also inspired by an interest in my Irish heritage and Celtic mythology is something I have always wanted to explore.

3. What genre does your book fall under?

It would most likely fall under Young Adult &  Fantasy.

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

To be honest I haven’t really thought about this.  I think my characters are very distinct in my head so I really don’t know if I have actors or actresses in mind just yet.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Fourteen year old Katie has endured more than her fair share of hardship: an accident, her parents divorce and moving to a new town but when she finds an ancient artifact, the real trouble begins.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

It is to be published by Professor Owl’s Publication Centre,  a small online publisher.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It’s still a work in progress. I have spent a great deal of time working on research and although it’s taken a while to flesh out the story, I am happy with the way it’s turning out.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

It’s hard to say – I think it’s pretty original in some aspects but it would be along the lines of Percy Jackson meets Harry Potter with some Agatha Christie for good measure.

9. Who or What inspired you to write this book?

A love of archaeology, mythology, my Irish heritage and a need to share a protagonist who despite challenges, lives a full and interesting life.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

I think it will be relatable to readers in the fact it illustrates that although you may have limitations, you can still triumph over adversity.
