Focusing on the Ninety Percent: A Story of Success #WATWB

Welcome to the “We are the World Blogfest” (#WATWB ). The #WATWB was inspired by a simple conversation about how all the negativity on social media was weighing on us. Wanting to make a difference, we decided to try to do our part to infuse social media with all the good stories that are out there. We hope to share the stories that show kindness, compassion, hope, overcoming challenges and in general, the impressive resilience of the human spirit. For every dark, negative story out there, there is a positive, heartwarming story that will add some light and lift the human spirit. #WATWB was started in March 2017, this month marks our forty-fourth opportunity to share positive uplifting stories to inspire, give hope and motivate others. The last Friday of every month bloggers share their stories led by five co-hosts, this month’s co-hosts are Sylvia McGrath, Roshan Radhakrishnan Shilpa Garg, Eric Lahti, and Belinda Witzenhausen.

When facing a disability or illness it is easy to ask, “Why me” but Blake Leeper counters with “Why not me?” With resilience, determination and hard work Blake has shown that focusing on what you can do rather than cannot do is the secret to success.

In 1989, Blake Leeper was born missing both legs below the knees due to a congenital birth defect and has worn prosthetics since he was nine months old. Throughout his childhood, Blake participated in various sports, including baseball, and running with highs and lows but with determination, hard work and believing in himself has led to him winning medals and breaking recordsBlake credits his outstanding positive attitude to his family making him realize that he may be ten percent disabled but he is ninety percent abled”.

Hi Belinda – brilliant he was at the 2012 ParaOlympics I’d have seen him on the tv – people are extraordinary … his parents really encouraged him to be the best and they inspired him to be a real leader for many others … and a 100% of heart … excellent #WATWB … mine is going up on Sunday … thanks for being here for us – Hilary

  2. Attitude is All! What an amazing story Belinda, I watched some of the video and am inspired and encouraged at the courage of humans, Blake in this instance. I love the St. Francis of Assisi quote. Have a great weekend 🙂

  3. Thank you Belinda for sharing this article, it certainly makes one feel that nothing should be impossible for more of us even with a few aches and pains.
